LOCATION - Lat 44°30'53.32", long 94°59'10.21" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.07, T.112 N., R.24 W., Redwood County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07020007, 2.5 miles S of Morton, Minnesota; 1.3 miles SE of Jackpot Junction Casino. The land surface at the site is 972.47 plus-or-minus 0.03 feet above sea level, North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 107 ft. Upper casing diameter 2 in; top of first opening 87 ft, bottom of last opening 107 ft. The hole for well LS-502 was drilled with a hydraulic rotary drill-rig on Dec. 06, 2006 to a depth of 120 feet. The well is constructed of a 20-feet-long, 2.04-inch-diameter, schedule-80 PVC, 0.010-inch slotted, flush-threaded screen, glued to about 90 feet of 2.04-inch-diameter, schedule-80 PVC casing. The casing stickup was 2.33 feet above land surface on Dec. 06, 2006. The open interval of the well is 87 - 107 feet below land surface and the total well depth is 107 feet.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 972.47 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: MP is top of casing, not protection post, 2.33 ft above land-surface datum, Dec. 6, 2006 to present. The measuring point is a black mark on the top of the 2-inch diameter PVC well casing, which was 2.33 feet above land surface on Nov. 2, 2009. Elevation of the measuring point is 974.80 plus-or-minus 0.030 feet above sea level, North American Vertical Datum of 1988, based on differential GPS Survey on Oct. 7, 2010.

GAGE - Water level and water temperature are measured with a Design Analysis H-310 submersible pressure transducer nominally accurate to 0.01 feet and 0.1°C, respectively. A Texas Electronics TRP-525I tipping-bucket rain gage currently measures precipitation and records precipitation quarter-hourly. Rain gage is nominally accurate to 0.01 inches. Water level, water temperature, precipitation, shelter temperature, shelter relative humidity, and battery voltage are all recorded by a Campbell Scientific, Inc. CR206 (512K memory) data logger, which records all data hourly, except precipitation data, which is recorded quarter-hourly. The data logger is housed in a 12-inch X 14-inch grey fiberglass shelter attached to 12.4' tall, 1.5-inch diameter mast. The gage is powered by one 20W solar panel and is telemetered by a Sierra Wireless LX60 cellular modem.
COOPERATION - Well LS-502 is operated by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Lower Sioux Indian Community.

When possible, missing precipitation daily-sums (above) were accurately estimated based on a National Weather Service precipitation record at Redwood Falls, Minnesota, which is 5.2 miles to the northwest until 1 July 2016.

INSTRUMENTATION - Precipitation is measured with a Texas Electronics TRP-525I tipping-bucket rain gage, which is accurate to 0.01 inches. The rain gage is unheated and uncovered during the winter. Thus precipitation data during freezing periods (about December through early April) result from melting of snow during warm periods and do NOT represent actual precipitation.
