LOCATION - Lat 44°22'38", long 68°15'41" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Hancock County, ME, Hydrologic Unit 01050002, on McFarland Hill, approximately 400 ft uphill of the National Park Service Headquarters, on State Route 233, in Bar Harbor. Owner: National Park Service.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 98.2 ft. Upper casing diameter 4 in; top of first opening 47.9 ft, bottom of last opening 98.2 ft. Drilled bedrock observation well.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 495.13 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: Top of steel casing between file marks, 4.79 ft above land-surface datum, Jun. 9, 2005 to present. Land-surface datum is at the general land surface.
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 2003 to current year.
GAGE - Electronic water-level recorder.
REMARKS - Gaps in record indicate missing data. Local earthquake on Oct. 2, 2006 caused a permanent 4 ft drop in water levels. Aquifer: Bedrock of Devonian age.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest daily water level, -3.69 ft above land-surface datum, June 12, 2006; lowest daily water level, 33.92 ft below land-surface datum, Oct. 21, 2007.
