LOCATION - Lat 36°36'55", long 76°33'20" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Suffolk City, VA, Hydrologic Unit 03010205, 0.3 mi north of Great Dismal Swamp Wildlife Refuge Headquarters on Desert Road, 2.0 mi east of Cypress Chapel. Owner: Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR VA-89-1: 1987.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 1,209 ft. Upper casing diameter 4 in; top of first opening 1,199 ft, bottom of last opening 1,209 ft. Drilled observation water well, diameter 2 in. from 1,136 to 1,209 ft, screened 1,199 to 1,209 ft.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 34.02 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: TOP OF CASING, 1.50 ft above land-surface datum, Apr. 15, 1992 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD - February 1987 to current year.
GAGE - Occasional measurement with chalked tape by USGS personnel. Prior to Apr. 15, 1992, digital recorder, 60-minute record interval.
REMARKS - Well is located in Lower Potomac aquifer of Cretaceous age. Water level affected by regional drawdown. Water from this well is known to contain concentrations of dissolved solids greater than 1,000 mg/L.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest water level recorded, 96.83 ft below land-surface datum, Sept. 30, 1987; lowest measured, 122.47 ft below land-surface datum, July 22, 2009.
