LOCATION - Lat 38°41'35.64", long 119°31'13.11" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.33, T.10 N., R.22 E., Douglas County, NV, Hydrologic Unit 16050302, at boat ramp of Topaz Lake County Park on West Walker River, and 5.5 mi north of Topaz.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Dec. 1921 to Sep. 1931 (monthly contents only published in WSP 1734), Oct. 1931 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage 4,900 ft. above Walker River Irrigation District (WRID) local datum.  Prior to Oct. 01, 1978, datum was National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 and was 4.62 ft lower than WRID local datum.
REMARKS - Topaz Lake, formerly known as Alkali Lake and Topaz Reservoir, was formed by the diversion of water from West Walker River through a feeder canal and the construction of an outlet tunnel through a low saddle in rim of lake. Storage began about Dec. 1921. Current usable capacity, WRID datum, 59,440 acre-ft, between elevations 4,972.30 ft (lowest practical elevation for diversion through tunnel) and 5,005.00 ft (3 ft below top of levee). Usable capacity of reservoir was increased from about 45,000 acre-ft to 59,440 acre-ft in Oct. 1937 by an earthfill, rock-faced levee at south end. There is 65,000 acre-ft of lake volume below the point of controllable storage. Water is used for irrigation in Walker River Irrigation District.
