LOCATION - Lat 45°36'47.82", long 112°19'45.83" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 SW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.34, T.2 S., R.6 W., Madison County, MT, Hydrologic Unit 10020005, on left bank 0.3 mi upstream from Hells Canyon Creek, 4.8 mi north of Twin Bridges, and at river mile 2,399.6.
DRAINAGE AREA - 7,616 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - The maximum discharge for water year 2017 was revised on Jan. 14, 2020, during a routine review of data. 
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1940 to September 1943, October 1957 to September 1972, May 1994 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 4,560 ft, referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988. August 1940 to September 1943, nonrecording gage at site 180 ft upstream at different elevation. October 1957 to June 3, 1972, water-stage recorder at site 430 ft upstream, and June 4 to September 30, 1972, nonrecording gage 6.5 mi downstream, and at different elevations. May 1994 to March 15, 2010, water-stage recorder 680 ft upstream at different datum.
REMARKS - Some regulation occurs by Clark Canyon, Lima and Ruby River Reservoirs. Numerous diversions for irrigation occur upstream from station.

minimum, 1.0 FNU, Sept. 19-23, 25, 27, 28, 2009.
WATER TEMPERATURE: During seasonal operation, maximum, 26.2°C July 1, 2015; minimum, 5.0°C October 12, 2016.
