03073000 South Fork Tenmile Creek at Jefferson, PA
LOCATION - Lat 39°55'23", long 80°04'22" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Greene County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05020005, on right bank at downstream side of bridge on State Highway 188, 3.1 mi downstream from Ruff Creek and 1 mi southwest of Jefferson.
DRAINAGE AREA - 180 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1305: 1949. WSP 1435: 1932-34, 1935 (M).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1931 to September 1995, October 2010 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 849.7 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.  October 1938 to September 1995, datum of gage was 2.54 ft higher. Prior to October 1938, non-recording gage at same site and datum.  Prior to January 2, 2024, the datum of gage was reported as 850 ft above the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.  Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
REMARKS - Slight diversion into basin during winter months from Monongahela River for Waynesburg water supply. Some regulation from reservoirs and pumpage above station. Record is good except those for estimated discharge, which is poor.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2010 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: November 2010 to current year. pH: May 2011 to current year (seasonal). WATER TEMPERATURE: November 2010 to current year. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: May 2011 to current year (seasonal).
COOPERATION - Water-quality samples were collected as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Water-Quality Network (WQN) with cooperation from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
INSTRUMENTATION - Continuous water-quality monitor interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval. Satellite telemetry at station.
REMARKS -

As of October 2013, results from discrete water quality samples collected at this site are available through the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System web interface on the "Water Quality for the Nation" webpage. Analyses for pH, water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen were performed on site. All other sample analyses were performed at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection laboratory in Harrisburg, PA. Occasionally, values for filtered parameters may exceed values for the corresponding unfiltered parameter. These results are within the limits of analytical precision and methods.

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. 

Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request.

 Data collection for pH and dissolved oxygen is discontinued during the winter months. Other interruptions in the record were due to equipment malfunctions.

For water year 2014, records for water temperature and dissolved oxygen are rated good. Records for specific conductance are rated good, except for February 27 to March 19 and June 17-19, which are rated fair. Records for pH are rated good, except for October 3-31 and August 24-25, which are rated fair, and October 22-28, which are rated poor.

For water year 2015, records for water temperature are rated good. Records for specific conductance are rated good, except for March 12-16, which are rated fair, and for march 17-18, which are rated poor. Records for pH are rated good. Records for dissolved oxygen are rated good, except for June 8 and August 3-11, which are rated fair, and for August 12, which is rated poor.

For water year 2016, records for water temperature are rated fair. Records for specific conductance are rated fair, except for December 25 to January 14 and February 27-March 10, which are poor. Records for pH are rated fair. Records for dissolved oxygen are rated poor.

For water year 2017, records for water temperature and pH are rated good. Records for specific conductance are rated good, except for May 5-9, which are fair, and May 10-17, which are poor. Records for dissolved oxygen are rated good, except for June 5 to August 3, which are poor.

For water year 2018, records for water temperature, specific conductance, pH, and dissolved oxygen are rated good.

Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE.--Maximum instantaneous, 32.2° C, July 7, 2012; minimum instantaneous, -0.3° C, many days in winter months. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE.--3030 microsiemens per centimeter, September 13, 2015; minimum instantaneous, 97 microsiemens per centimeter, July 30, 2019.
