02383500 COOSAWATTEE RIVER NEAR PINE CHAPEL, GA
LOCATION - Lat 34°33'51", long 84°49'59" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Gordon County, GA, Hydrologic Unit 03150102, on the downstream side of right bank pier of Owens Bridge on Owens Gin Road, 1.4 miles downstream from Sallacoa Creek, 8.7 miles upstream from confluence with Conasauga River, and 2.4 miles east of Pine Chapel.
DRAINAGE AREA - 831 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR GA-80-1: Drainage area. WDR GA-2009-1: 2005-2006.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD -
DISCHARGE: October 1938 to current year. Prior to October 1976, published as Coosawattee River at Pine Chapel, GA. Monthly discharge only for October to November 1938, published in WSP 1304.
GAGE HEIGHT: October 1998 to current year.
GAGE - Satellite telemetry with a water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 616.09 feet above North American Vertical Datum (NAVD) of 1988 (GNSS survey). Since October 1, 1976, auxiliary water-stage recorder at highway bridge 2.2 miles downstream. Prior to February 23, 1940, a non-recording gage was located at current auxiliary gage site and same datum. From February 23, 1940, to April 8, 1975, a water-stage recorder was located at current auxiliary gage site and same datum. From February 23, 1940, to April 8, 1975, an auxiliary water-stage recorder was located at current gage site. From April 9, 1975, to September 30, 1976, a water-stage recorder on Oostanaula River at Resaca used as auxiliary gage, due to bridge construction.
COOPERATION - STREAMGAGE: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District. WATER QUALITY: Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Flow regulated by Carters Lake and Carters Re-regulation Dam. Statistics prior to regulation are available upon request.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of April 8, 1938, reached a stage of 30.0 feet from gage reading at current auxiliary gage, discharge 34,000 cfs.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - Maximum discharge recorded, 40,200 cfs, March 30, 1951; maximum gage height recorded, 34.20 feet, March 30, 1951, at current base gage; minimum daily discharge, 220 cfs, October 26, 1941.
