02225000 ALTAMAHA RIVER NEAR BAXLEY, GA
LOCATION - Lat 31°56'22.2", long 82°21'12.2" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Appling County, GA, Hydrologic Unit 03070106, on right bank 400 feet downstream from bridge on U.S. 1, 2.2 miles upstream from Bay Creek, 8.0 miles downstream from Bullards Creek, and 12.0 miles north of Baxley.
DRAINAGE AREA - 11,600 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD -
DISCHARGE: August 1949 to June 1951, October 1970 to current year.
GAGE-HEIGHT: August 1949 to June 1951, October 1999 to current year.
GAGE - Satellite transmitter with a water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 60.7 feet above North American Vertical Datum (NAVD) of 1988. From August 13, 1949, to June 30, 1951, a non-recording gage was located at site 400 feet upstream at same datum.
COOPERATION - Georgia Power Corporation.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally fair. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor.  Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-ga_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of December 10, 1948, reached a stage of 25.1 feet, from flood marks, discharge, 130,000 cfs. Flood of January 22, 1925, reached a stage of 30.00 feet with a discharge 230,00 cfs from information furnished by Georgia Department of Transportation.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge recorded, 144,000 cfs, March 16, 1998; maximum gage-height recorded, 24.15 feet, March 16, 1998; minimum daily discharge, 1,140 cfs, September 19, 2011.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
