SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1939 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1303.
GAGE - Data collection platform. Datum of gage is 1,211.30 ft above NAVD of 1988. Satellite telemetry at station.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally good except for estimated discharges, which are fair. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-nc_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge from rating curve extended above 1,400 ft³/s on basis of computation of peak flow over dam 1 mi upstream at gage heights 4.58, 6.60, 7.70, and 12.70 ft.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1999 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Tipping-bucket raingage and electronic datalogger. Satellite telemetry at station.
REMARKS - Gage is operated in cooperation with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District. Precipitation data collected during freezing periods may not be accurately reflected in daily record.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - November 2012 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: November 2012 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Temperature probe since November 2012. Satellite telemetry at station.
REMARKS - Independent field values of water temperature were collected during servicing of the temperature probe and are listed on the individual field sheets. All calibration data is on file in the Asheville Field Office and stored in USGS approved ‘Water-Quality Meter Calibration and Maintenance Logs’. The data are rated based on the criteria defined in the “Guidelines and Standard Procedures for Continuous Water- Quality Monitors: Station Operation, Record Computation, and Data Reporting Techniques and Methods 1-D3”, page 38.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum recorded, 27.6°C, July 27, 2016; minimum recorded, -0.1°C, periodically in winter months.
