  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2024
01516350 TIOGA RIVER NEAR MANSFIELD, PA
LOCATION - Lat 41°47'49", long 77°04'50" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Tioga County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02050104, on left bank on Township Route 754, 0.9 mi downstream from Slate Creek, and 0.7 mi south of Mansfield.
DRAINAGE AREA - 153 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR PA-84-2: 1980-83 (P). Gage height and discharge for Oct 30, 2017 peak were revised on Apr 2, 2018 based on computed instantaneous value instead of an inaccurate CSG reading.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1976 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage, water-quality monitor, and heated tipping bucket precipitation gage. Datum of gage is 1,120.80 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.   Prior to May 25, 1999, at site 0.3 mi upstream at same datum. Prior to October 2, 2023, the datum of gage was reported as 1,121.28 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite and landline telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Maximum peak stage for period of record occurred from a floodmark, at site then in use. Records are good except those for estimated discharge, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in September 1975 reached an approximate stage of 20.1 ft, from floodmarks, at original site 0.3 mi upstream, discharge, about 18,000 ft³/s.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Water years 1975 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: October 1976 to September 1985; October 2015 to current year. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: October 1976 to September 1985; October 2015 to current year. pH: October 1976 to September 1985; October 2015 to current year. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: October 1976 to September 1977.
COOPERATION - Water-quality samples were collected as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Water-Quality Network (WQN) with cooperation from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Continuous water quality records were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval.
REMARKS - As of October 2013, results from discrete water quality samples collected at this site are available through the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System web interface on the "Water Quality for the Nation" webpage. Analyses for pH, water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen were performed on site. All other sample analyses were performed at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection laboratory in Harrisburg, Pa. Occasionally, values for filtered parameters may exceed values for the corresponding unfiltered parameter. These results are within the limits of analytical precision and methods. Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request. Historically water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. Subsequent to water year 2015, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius are reported. Water temperature, pH and specific conductance data are collected year round.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 31.0°C, Jul 18, 1982; minimum, at or below 0°C many days during winter periods. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 1,110 microsiemens/cm, Jul 13, 2016; minimum, 34 microsiemens/cm, Dec 25, 2020. pH: Maximum, 7.8 std units, Sep 23, 2022; minimum, 3.2 std units, Sep 15-18, 1985. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Extremes not reported due to lack of data.
