  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2024
01478137 Trout Run at Avondale, PA
LOCATION - Lat 39°49'18", long 75°46'46" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Chester County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02040205, 30 feet upstream from bridge at State Route 41, in Avondale Boro.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1.34 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Prior to March 14, 2022, the datum of gage was reported as 270 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - 1997-1998. December 2019 to current year.
GAGE -

Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage, and water quality monitor. Datum of gage is 266.385 ft. above North American Vertical Datum of 1988, from single-base GNSS static survey.  Satellite telemetry at station.  Prior to March 14, 2022, the datum of gage was erroneously reported as 270 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.

COOPERATION - The station is maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey with funding provided by the U.S. Geological Survey Next Generation Water Observing System(NGWOS).
REMARKS - Records for water year 2020 are fair. Records for water years 2021-2022 are fair except for estimated discharge, which is poor.
ECOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2011 to current year.
REMARKS - Samples were collected using a Hess sampler with a mesh size of 500 microns. Three samples were collected and composited.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - December 2002. October 2011. Water Temperature and Specific Conductance, December 2019 to current year. Turbidity, July 2020 to current year.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Chester County Water Resources Authority.
INSTRUMENTATION - Temperature, specific conductance, and turbidity are collected on a 15-minute interval from a water-quality sonde interfaced with site telemetry.
REMARKS - Samples were collected as part of the Chester County Biological Monitoring project. The reporting precision of the turbidity probe in low turbidity water is +/-0.3 FNU. The lowest reportable value, 0 FNU, is subject to this error and does not necessarily indicate a condition of zero turbidity. Turbidity values greater than 1300 FNU are beyond the specification of the sensor and are considered unreliable. Interruptions in the record were due to malfunctions of the equipment.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - Water Temperature: Maximum 29.7 °C June 30, 2021; minimum 0 °C many days. Specific Conductance: Maximum 3990 us/cm Jan 18, 2020 (road salt); minimum 98.6 us/cm Aug 4, 2020. TURBIDITY: Maximum 682 FNU, Jan 1, 2022; minimum 0 FNU, many days.
