LOCATION - Lat 40°49'45", long 75°42'20" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Carbon County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02040106, on left bank 190 ft downstream from highway bridge at Lehighton, and 0.3 mi upstream from Mahoning Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 591 mi².

Prior to April 25, 2022 and April 18, 2023 datum of gage was erroneously reported as 444.26 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Gage height records beginning 1935 are contained in reports of the U.S. Weather Bureau. October 1945 to September 1948 (monthly discharge only, published in WSP 1302). Miscellaneous measurements, water years 1977-78, 1980-81, and annual maximum, 1982. October 1982 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 445.17 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1988.  Prior to August 1970, at same site at datum 2.0 ft higher. Prior to December 1982, non-recording gage at highway bridge 190 ft upstream at same datum.  Prior to April 25, 2022 and April 18, 2023 datum of gage was erroneously reported as 444.26 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.  Satellite and landline telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District.
REMARKS - Flow regulated by Francis E. Walter Reservoir (station 01447780) since February 1961. Records for water years 2014-2017 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water year 2018 are fair except those for estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2019-2020, 2022-2023 are good except those for estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2021 and 2024 are good except those from Sept 1-30, which are fair and those for estimated discharge, which is poor.
