LOCATION - Lat 45°08'13", long 67°19'05" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Washington County, ME, Hydrologic Unit 01050001, on right bank at site of destroyed international highway bridge at Baring.

DRAINAGE AREA - 1,366 mi².

REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR ME-82-1: Drainage area.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - DISCHARGE: October 1959 to current year. Records for October 1998 to September 1999, published as "at Woodland." Records prior to water year 1974 have not been published, but are available in the files of the U.S. Geological Survey and on NWISWeb.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage was revised on Jun. 16, 2024, from 65.72 to 66.16 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988, based on updated geodetic survey. July 28, 1999 to Apr. 30, 2000, at site 5.0 mi upstream at different datum.

COOPERATION - This station is maintained by the United States under agreement with Canada.

REMARKS - Flow regulated by Chiputneticook Lakes, Grand Lake, and other lakes. Final regulation is at Woodland, 5.6 mi upstream from gage.

Water Year 2015: Records good, including period of no gage-height record, Nov. 25, except for periods of ice effect, Dec. 7-8, Dec. 30 to Jan. 3, Jan. 5-18, Jan. 21 to Mar. 10, and Mar. 16-25, which are poor.

Water Year 2014: Records good, including period of no gage-height record, Sept. 26, except for periods of ice effect, Dec. 9-21, Dec. 24 to Jan. 11, Jan. 21-30, Feb. 4, 6-19, Feb. 24 to Mar. 8, Mar. 12-18 and 23-27, which are fair.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - The flood of May 1, 1923 has been estimated as 24,100 ft³/s at Baring, based on flows for the St. Croix River near Baileyville (station 01020000); gage height unknown.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 23,500 ft³/s, May 29, 1961, gage height, 12.76 ft; minimum daily discharge, 262 ft³/s, Oct. 20, 1964.
