Exciting news for aspiring water data science leaders! In May or early June the USGS will be recruiting a new water data science Branch Chief. This is a unique and challenging career opportunity to lead and manage the cutting-edge research and development efforts of our team. As a permanent federal employee at the GS-14 level, the successful candidate will lead a dynamic team of experts and make a significant contribution to the field of water data science.
This position is responsible for providing strategic leadership in developing and maintaining data science as a discipline within the USGS. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of tools and techniques for data-intensive research, data analytics, and data visualization products and services within the USGS Water Resources Mission Area. A better feel for the work, however, can likely be had by reading the thoughtful reflections of Jordan Read, the prior Branch Chief, and the current directions and opportunities for water data science at USGS .
This position will provide applicants with a unique opportunity to work with a highly skilled team contributing to the scientific community and public understanding of water resources in support of the broad USGS mission to deliver actionable information at scales and timeframes relevant to decision makers – to provide science to a changing world.
